e-Skyactiv D 3.3 engine: faults and reliability

Mazda e-Skyactiv D 3.3 seis cilindros microhíbrido (T3-VPTS) · Mazda

The e-Skyactiv D 3.3 is an inline-six diesel with mild-hybrid assistance that Mazda debuted in the CX-60. It is a very recent engine: there is no in-service reliability data, and what is documented are software recalls (stalling, restarting, clutch) fixed at the official dealer.[1][2][3]

Which e-Skyactiv D 3.3 versions should you buy?

Our verdict for each version, based on the documented faults.

Buy: No known serious faults, or they have already been corrected, in this version. With caution: Worth buying if something specific is verified: history, a replaced part or a completed campaign. Avoid: High risk of a serious fault that is hard to check for or prevent.

What the e-Skyactiv D 3.3 is

In 2022 Mazda introduced with the CX-60 a longitudinal 3,283 cc inline-six diesel with piezoelectric common-rail injection at 250 MPa, a 15.2:1 compression ratio and a turbo; it produces 254 hp and 550 Nm between 1,500 and 2,400 rpm.[4][5]

It is combined with an integrated 48 V motor-generator (M Hybrid Boost) and an eight-speed automatic gearbox; it has since also been used in the CX-80 and CX-90.[4][5][6]

Mazda also offers the e-Skyactiv PHEV plug-in hybrid in the CX-60, which uses a 2.5 four-cylinder petrol engine rather than an inline-six; we do not cover it here for lack of fault data of its own.[4][6]
