EDC vs Dualogic: which gearbox is more reliable?

According to our risk index, the Dualogic gearbox carries less risk than the EDC gearbox: 29/100 versus 38/100 (both moderate risk). The EDC gearbox has 3 documented serious faults, the main one being «EDC gearbox overheating and safety neutral»; the Dualogic gearbox has 1 documented serious fault, the main one being «Actuator or hydraulic pressure fault: the gearbox drops into neutral on its own or refuses gears».

Is the EDC gearbox reliable?

The EDC covers several Renault dual-clutch gearboxes: the EDC6 (Getrag DC4 dry clutch on most entry-level engines, or DW6 wet clutch on higher-torque ones) and the wet-clutch EDC7, introduced in 2016 to fix the low-speed judder of the earlier unit. Many owners document early clutch wear, overheating that forces a safety neutral, and control electronics faults, especially on the EDC6.[1][2]

Is the Dualogic gearbox reliable?

The Dualogic is the automated manual gearbox that Fiat has fitted since 2003 to models such as the 500, Panda, Grande Punto/Punto, Doblò and Qubo, and that Lancia sells as D.F.N. on the Ypsilon. It has no systemic fault acknowledged by the manufacturer, but there are recurring testimonies of jerking on every gearchange, clutches that wear out early, and actuator faults that make the gearbox drop into neutral on its own while driving.[3][4][5]
