1.2 Turbo / Hybrid third generation with chain, 100-145 hp (from 2023) engine: faults and reliability
What changes in this version
A redesign with 70% new parts: timing chain instead of a belt, variable-geometry turbo, Miller cycle, 350 bar injection, new pistons and an improved oil separator. It debuted in 2023 in the 48 V hybrids (Hybrid 100/136, then 110/145) and in 2026 arrives without hybridisation in the 208 and 2008 as the Turbo 100.[3][4][5][6]
Engine codes of this version: EB2LTED, EB2LTEDH2.
Faults of the EB2LTED engine
The documented engine faults that affect this version and its years, from most to least important.
- 1Critical severityRareFrequency: RareFuelPossible petrol leak in the high-pressure circuit (chain-driven generation)In 2025 Stellantis recalled the new-generation 1.2 turbos (chain-driven, 100 and 136 hp, hybrids included) built from 2023 to 2025: a joint on the high-pressure pipe could leak petrol, with a risk of fire. It is fixed with a free re-tightening taking under 30 minutes.Repair: €0
- 2High severityRareFrequency: RareTimingTiming misalignment from the camshaft sprocket bolts (chain-driven generation)On the third-generation 1.2 (chain-driven) built up to 17 February 2024, the camshaft sprocket bolts could be incorrectly fitted and throw the timing out: engine warning light, loss of power and, in the worst case, contact between pistons and valves.

Frequently asked questions
Is the EB2LTED engine reliable?
Our verdict is “With caution”. The chain eliminates the belt problem, but you need to confirm that the 2025 recall for a possible petrol leak has been done and, on units built up to February 2024, the correction of the camshaft sprocket bolts.[1][2]
What faults does the EB2LTED engine have?
The documented ones that affect this version, by importance: possible petrol leak in the high-pressure circuit (chain-driven generation) (critical severity) and timing misalignment from the camshaft sprocket bolts (chain-driven generation) (high severity).
Which cars use the EB2LTED engine?
Peugeot 208 II (since 2019), Peugeot 2008 II (since 2019), Peugeot 308 III (since 2021), Peugeot 3008 II (2016–2023), Peugeot 3008 III (since 2023), Peugeot 5008 II (2017–2023), Citroën C3 IV (since 2024), Citroën C4 III (since 2020), Citroën C5 Aircross (since 2018) and Opel Corsa F (since 2019), among 10 others.[1][2][3][4][5][7][8][9][10][11]
